Tania Jenkins (better known in the industry as “TJ”) began her film career in 1986 after studying Communications, PR and Marketing. Her involvement with a feature film and local TV Series by Franz Marx Productions saw her move into Production Management on a top rated 36 part TV Drama series, “Agter Elke Man” for the S.A.B.C.
Tania went on to production manage and supervise post-production of the feature film version of “Agter Elke Man”, before production managing “Taxi to Soweto” and “To the Death”, feature films produced by Edgar Bold and Anant Singh respectively. She coordinated two international feature films produced by the Vanger brothers and Paul Werner, before production managing the popular local TV series, “The Game”.
Tania was appointed as Line-Producer for the feature film of the international musical blockbuster “Sarafina!” starring Whoopi Goldberg. The film was produced by Anant Singh’s VideoVision in co-production with the BBC and Les Films Ariane.
In 1992 Tania joined M-Net as International Co-Productions Executive, serving as Executive Producer on their “New Directions” TV Dramas and notably the internationally successful wildlife docu-drama “Shingalana - The Little Hunter” in co-production with Londolozi Productions. In addition to these productions she was intimately involved with the promotion of M-Net’s International Co-Production initiatives, handling evaluation, planning and control with international clients, and all the production aspects of programmes to be made in Southern Africa. This included the budgeting, scheduling, managing as well as international co-production. During this time Tania gained invaluable experience in assessing production and legal agreements within the international co-production structure from a practical production perspective.
In 1994 she joined Londolozi Film Productions as General Manager and served as Executive Producer on several of Londolozi’s international wildlife films, including the successful wildlife docu-drama series “Shingalana - The Little Hunter”, “Super Hunts”, “Hyaena -The Great Opportunist” and “Savannah Cats”.
Tania left Londolozi to continue freelancing as Production Advisor to Peter Gallo of NU-Metro/GTV on several documentary projects in different stages of production, with Southern African based wildlife filmmakers and international partners. Her association with M-Net was resumed in January 1996 when she was commissioned to Line Produce two of their “New Directions” TV dramas.
In 1996 she Production Managed the African filming of “In the Wild - Cheetahs with Holly Hunter” for Tigress Productions.
Later that year, Tania formed AFRISCREEN FILMS and has since been the Producer on all of AfriScreen Films’ productions. Tania also personally supervises all production facilitation for AfriScreen’s international clients and it is her personal touch and attention to detail that has greatly enhanced AfriScreen’s reputation.
