PASEKA - THE EASTER ELEPHANT

Picture
The miraculous story of a wild baby elephant who forced herself on a strange species in order to survive. Orphaned at barely six weeks old, Paseka’s fate should have been to die quickly in the bush.  But that is not Paseka’s way.  A feisty little elephant with a will of her own, she chose life.  A rather unusual one at that!

Over Easter weekend 2008, safari guides in Botswana’s Okavango Delta discovered the tiny elephant alone in the wilderness and under attack by hyena. The helpless calf was unable to defend herself and the outcome should have been certain.  But when she spotted the safari vehicle she made a surprising choice - heading directly for it seeking sanctuary.  Obstinately she followed the vehicle back to camp, and never left.

Fortunately for her, she had turned up at Abu Camp, where they have a herd of habituated elephants.  And so it was that the orphaned wild baby was adopted by seventeen humans and eight elephants.  They named her Paseka, the Setswana word for Easter.

Raised barefoot and wild in the bush, Adrian Dandridge is a safari guide and a wandering spirit. He has spent many years surrounded by elephants, both wild and trained, but this little elephant is quite different! He befriended Paseka and treads beside her on her unusual path in this untamed land.

This film tells Paseka’s story as she journeys with her adoptive human and elephant family in the wilds of Botswana.
